Investing in Blue Ribbon

The Iona team combines investment and risk management skills with deep waste and renewable sector operator expertise. The team has demonstrable success in delivering returns in this specialist sector and has gained expert knowledge in operational efficiency and risk management.

Iona works closely with leading UK and international waste management industry participants, project developers and industry consultants to source long term projects which it prepares for investment.

The Bioenergy sector has both a favourable and stable fiscal and regulatory regime underpinned by UK and World decarbonisation targets (COP 21). UK Tariffs for Electricity and Gas revenue sales provide inflationary hedged income streams and non-correlated market returns.

Investment approach

Bioenergy and Resource Efficiency

The Iona funds focus on the Bioenergy and Resource Efficiency sectors utilising well proven technologies such as Anaerobic Digestion (“AD”) Biomass Combined Heat and Power (“Biomass CHP”) and Energy from Waste technologies (EfW). These technologies have been successfully integrated across Europe for a number of years. Additional add on technologies in energy efficiency and infrastructure are also considered. We take a low risk approach to all projects with the above technologies having proven reference sites.

Iona invested into Newbridge Energy Ltd, the owners of Blazers Fuels, in June 2016. The business has been manufacturing the 10kg blazers fuel logs since 1999 and has a reputation for quality and service. A key part of the investment was not only to acquire Newbridge Energy but also to purchase a new biomass CHP and wood drying equipment. The new biomass CHP qualify for ROC’s and RHI tariffs generating significant revenue enhancement to the Company.
